Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) - Greater NOIDA
68India is rising and so is the thrust for cutting edge knowledge, up-to-dated skills, and the essence of entrepreneurship among Indian youths. Since the economic reforms of 1992-93, the demand for managerial education has burgeoned in India. And, we have also encountered the rise of some exceptional Business-Schools in India.
Birla Institute of Management Technology [BIMTECH] is a step in that direction. BIMTECH was established in 1988, before the arrival of New Industrial Policy of Manmohan Singh. BIMTECH has shown spectacular success in delivering quality managerial education coupled with values. In fact, BIMTECH has always tried to impart ‘character’ among its student with managerial skills. Imparting excellence with values is the prime motto of BIMTECH and in fact, this is what makes BIMTECH stands apart.
Start
Birla Institute of Management Technology [BIMTECH] was started in 1988. The great B. K. Birla with his ever inspiring wife Smt. Sarala Birla led to the establishment of this B-School. The institute is run under the aegis of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture. In fact, it is a visit by Mr. B. K. Birla to the ISB, Hyderabad which led to the establishment of this school.
Ranking
Since the end of 1990s BIMTECH has been consistently ranked among top 20 B-Schools in India by various surveys done by media house and independent third parties. Here are some prominent points about the reputation of this institute:
- The Nielsen-Business Today B-Schools Survey 2010 gave BIMTECH 2nd Rank among private B-Schools in Northern India.
- The Nielsen-Business Today B-Schools Survey, 2010 placed BIMTECH at 9th rank among Private B-Schools of India.
- The same survey has ranked BIMTECH 21st among all B-Schools.
Life @ BIMTECH
The BIMTECH has evolved a very efficient strategy to provide the best and most conducive environment for its students. A student body has been framed by the management which takes into account of almost all vital needs of students. This body is known as CONDUIT. Conduit comprises of six committees including discipline, mess, cultural among others. These committees look after the affairs coming under their domain. The committees are run by students themselves with active participation of faculty members. It ensures better co-ordination and healthy environment among students and faculties.
Campus
The BIMTECH campus is located in Greater Noida. If you are going from NOIDA then at the crossing of Yamuna Expressway and NOIDA-Greater NOIDA expressway, take a left turn and there you will find the BIMTECH campus. Though, the campus is said to be fully residential, but first year male students don’t get hostel within the campus. Hence, terming it fully residential is not OK. On the whole, the campus looks beautiful and one thing which strikes my mind is its noise free environment. The campus is equipped with almost all modern facilities like wi-fi, Dining Hall, Cafeteria, Gym, Salon, Beauty Parlour, Tuck Shop, etc. Then, there is a BIMTECH Knowledge Center within the campus. The Knowledge Center is developed with utmost care. Two floor reading rooms are accompanied with this Knowledge Center with a collection of more than 35,000 books and other necessary items like periodicals and subscriptions of online journals. The Knowledge Center is also equipped with a large database of books which will come handy for research. The e-resource that I find at BIMTECH’s Knowledge Center is really great.

BIMTECH started this department in 2002. It was another landmark decision of BIMTECH as the retail sector began to see stupendous growth after this. It can be said that the management of this institute understand the demand of the industry. The potential of growth in the retail sector in India is huge. Though, the FDI is not allowed in the multi-brand retail, but even then one can see the growth.

BIMTECH accepts CAT scorecard to shortlist students for GD/PI. One needs to have more than 85 percentile to get a call from this institute. Though, the exact percentile depends on many factors like academic records and work experience. The minimum graduation requirement is 50%. The same admission process is applied for all departments.
Centre for Insurance and Risk Management (CIRM)
When the Vajpayee Government allowed 26% FDI in the insurance sector then BIMTECH saw it a chance to train students specially for this sector. The potential in the insurance sector is really huge. In fact, the sector is in dire need of manpower. BIMTECH opened this department in 2000, just one year after the FDI decision of the Vajpayee Government. In fact, BIMTECH is the first B-School in India which started a special department and course of insurance sector. Now, there are many.
